...Miles Lerman, chairman of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, now admits it was "the wrong thing" to have the Museum endorse the book Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know, which includes an article by leftwing Israeli historian-journalist Benny Morris accusing Israel of "ethnic cleansing." The Museum's executive director, Sara Bloomfield, told the Forward that she "wished she had been aware before the [endorsement] that articles in the book cited Israel for war crimes." Left unanswered is how the Museum could endorse a book that its own executive director had never opened. It's not clear, however, what difference it would have made if Bloomfield had read it, because Crimes of War is still for sale in the Museum's book store, and both chairman Lerman and board member Menachem Rosensaft told the Forward that refusing to sell it in the store would be akin to "book burning." No word yet on whether the Museum book shop also intends to sell the works of Holocaust-deniers Arthur Butz, David Irving, or Roger Garaudy...
...Buford Furrow, the neo-Nazi who shot up the Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles in August, has found an unexpected ally in Egypt. The government-controlled daily newspaper Akhbar Al-Yom recently published an op-ed in which the author wrote: "[Furrow] has a goal: to annihilate the Jewish race in the United States. I ask Allah to assist him in his efforts to attain this goal. Let us all join together saying, 'May it be Allah's will..." The Simon Wiesenthal Center, in Los Angeles, asked Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to condemn the article, but Albright has so far remained silent...

Join Us On OPERATION CHIZUKTrue friends of Zion are invited to join with Chizuk in a unique trip to Israel, Nov. 2-8, 1999. The special occasion will be the reading of the parshat Chayey Sarah -- the portion of the Torah where Abraham buys Sarah's grave in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. Tens of thousands of Jews from all over the world will convene in Israel's 2nd holiest city for this celebration. You can be one of them. The tour will depart Tuesday, November 2 (Election Day), and return Monday morning, November 8, 1999. Included in the program will be extensive touring of Judea and Samaria, as well as Jerusalem and its surroundings. Meetings with community leaders and activists, as well as political and government representatives, will round out the program.
Jan.19-30, 2000: This is a special trip based at a luxury hotel in Jerusalem and geared for people that want to tour Judea and Samaria, but need to spend time with children and family living in Israel. Special accommodations will be made for children studying in Israel. Feb. 13-20, 2000: We travel with Operation Chizuk throughout Judea, Samaria, the Golan, Aza, and eastern Jerusalem, showing support for the over 300,000 residents of these communities. As we give strength to those we visit, so we ourselves are strengthened. Don't miss this extraordinary experience.
