...Knesset Member Shlomo Ben-Ami, winner of the Labor Party's recent primaries, is the author of a book which accuses advocates of Western-style free market economics of having "created social holocausts." The book also claims that "There is a direct line between [the University of] Chicago and its [free market] social and economic philosophy and Chicago as a model of increased crime..." In Israel, Ben-Ami declares, there is a "connection between increased Israeli crime since 1996 and the election then of a prime minister whose body language radiates aggressiveness"...
...The "wicked son" of the Passover seder is not really wicked, according to David Arnow, longtime leader of the New Israel Fund. In a pre-Passover essay published in various Jewish newspapers, Arnow declared that "Judaism needs them both, chacham [the wise son] and rasha [the wicked son]." For while the wise son is interested only in laws, the wicked son "wonders why--a quest of the spirit identified with aggada, the tales, legends, anecdotes and aphorisms that probe reasons and illuminate meaning"...
...One hundred and eighty-three leftwing Jewish radicals, led by perennial extremist Arthur Waskow, signed a March 31 advertisement in the New York Times headlined "U.S. Jews, Break the Silence"--appealing to American Jewry to pressure Israel to make more concessions to Yasser Arafat. The ad aso hailed "the courageous policies of Yitzhak Rabin." Ironically, many of the signatories were previously active in the 1970s leftwing Jewish group "Breira," which publicly condemned then-Prime Minister Rabin for not making enough concessions to the Arabs...
...Recognizing who their real friends are, the extremist Arab American Institute, headed by James Zogby, has distributed an "Action Alert" urging its members to send letters of thanks to Congressman Sam Gejdenson (Democrat, Connecticut). Gejedenson, who is Jewish, tried unsuccessfully to alter the recent Congressional resolution opposing Palestinian statehood. He wanted to insert language opposing "unilateral actions" by both Israel and the Palestinian Authority...

cans has only provided the PLO with new avenues and opportunities to transmit their hatreds and prejudices to a new generation of warriors. The Oslo Accord, the Hebron Agreement and now the Wye Accord give us a clear and unrefracted window into the heart of the Palestinian leadership and its true intentions. As with repeat offenders in the U.S. who would endlessly challenge the resolve of the American legal system, enough is enough. Now is the time for Israel to follow the lead of the United States on matters of non-compliance and inform Mr. Arafat, "strike three, and you're out!"

events of Jewish history -- the Holocaust and the rebirth of the Jewish state -- ends on the sour note of danger for all the Jews in Israel as well as those in Russia. There is the chilling number of 6,000,000 Jews at serious risk today. And the sorrow and the pity are the perverse role that Israel's pacifists and their American acolytes have had in this debacle.
Ruth King is a member of the executive committee of Americans For a Safe Israel.
