Spotlight on the Extremists

...One of Israel's largest Israeli Arab political parties, the National Democratic Alliance, may be banned from the forthcoming elections, because of extremist statements by its leader, Knesset Member Azmi Bishara, in praise of the Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon. In addition, the party's platform rejects the Jewish character of the State and calls for cancelling the Law of Return...

...MK Hashem Mahamed, of the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash), declared at a Haifa University rally that Hezbollah "is a national liberation movement of the first order." Two days after Mahamed's declaration, Hezbollah terrorists killed three Israeli soldiers near the Israel-Lebanon border...

...Your Federation Dollars at Work: The Santa Barbara (CA) Jewish Federation was one of the sponsors of a recent public program called "Jerusalem Women Speak," in which an Arab Muslim, an Arab Christian, and a Meretz Party activist took turns denouncing Israel. Other co-sponsors of the event included the Muslim Student Association of the University of California at Santa Barbara, the radical-left Women's International League of Peace and Freedom, and something called the "Nuclear Age Peace Foundation"...

...The Jerusalem Post recently referred to the New York-based Israel Policy Forum, headed by Jonathan Jacoby, as "an organization formed in 1993 to support the Oslo accords." Although the Israel Policy Forum likes to portray itself as a non-partisan group that merely supports "peace" or "Oslo," it was, in fact, established by the Labor Party, prior to the Oslo accords, for the purpose of furthering the Labor Party's interests. The Jerusalem Post itself reported on July 8, 1993--more than two months before Oslo--that "Labor is setting up a United States desk headed by Attorney Yitzhak Herzog, son of President Chaim Herzog, to widen the party's contacts in America, party secretary-general Nissim Zvilli said this week . . . A similar equivalent desk will operate in the U.S. headed by Jonathan Jacoby . . ."

...Responding to Israeli complaints about the Palestinian Authority's anti-Israel incitement propaganda, Nahed Munir al-Rais, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, recently wrote in the Arab newspaper Al Quds: "They insist on removing the map of Palestine from the school classrooms and to stop the shouts of 'To Palestine!' in the morning parades and roll calls. The Palestinian people's belief of its belonging to Palestine is not a crime on which it is necessary to wage war...The
belonging to Palestine, on her sea, river and shores, on her plains, mountains and her Al-Aksa Mosque, are deep-rooted truths within the natinal character. There is no way to erase this belonging"...

...In the same vein, Marwan Kanafani, who heads the PA's delegation to the Wye Accord Incitement Monitoring Committee, declared in the PA daily All Hayat Al Jadeedah that "the goal of the occupation in raising the subject of incitement is to 'conquer the Palestinian consciousness'. It is our obligation to prevent this by relying on logic, justice, and adherence to the history of the struggle of our people, in pointing to the fact that the occupation has failed, during 50 years, to achieve this [goal]"--note how Kanafani dates the "occupation" to Israel's establishment in 1948, not to the 1967 war...

...Knesset Member Taleb a-Sanaa, of the Democratic Arab Party, announced in February that he and Ahmed Tibi, an Israeli Arab who is a senior adviser to Yasser Arafat, plan to visit Iraq in order to express their solidarity with Saddam Hussein "in the face of American aggression"...
