...While President Clinton was addressing a Washington conference co-sponsored by the Arab American Institute and the Palestinian American Congress, here's what two leaders of those groups were saying about Israel to their followers. Ray Hanania, president emeritus of the Palestinian American Congress, distributed an op-ed in which he characterized the convicted Arab terrorists who are imprisoned in Israel as the "3,500 Palestinians languishing in concentration camp-like prisons"... James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute, wrote in the Jordan Times that Chaim Weizmann was "insidious" and "a racist," and accused the Zionist movement of trying "to erase Arab humanity from the equation in Palestine"...
...Meanwhile, Khalil Jahshan, president of the "moderate" National Association of Arab Americans, let loose with an anti-Semitic outburst. Writing in the Beirut Times, declared that "such qualities as extreme audacity, nerve, gall, and temerity have become synonymous with the Israeli national character. Consequently, the Hebrew/Yiddish term 'chutzpah' has managed to work its way into the English dictionary"...
...Yori Yanover, owner and editor of the "Jewish Communications Network," is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most extreme and irresponsible voices on the internet. Excerpts from recent postings by Yanover on his web site: "Palestinian terror, acts of terror are usually the weapon of the weak side in any struggle. The strong side has governments and parliaments and courts and armies" ... "The Golda Meir government was a sickening exercise in hypocrisy, lies, robbery of conquered minorities, direct theft of national treasures, and a record-setting self-righteousness" ... "If we're looking for a true culprit in the Rabin assassination, I propose Religious Zionism, as a political concept and as the morbidly fascistic approach to Judaism." Among other things, Yanover's Network sponsors a forum run by Walter Ruby, a leftwing journalist (Long Island Jewish World) and longtime Peace Now activist who is apparently not fazed by Yanover's rantings...
...In an interview with the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram, Israeli Arab Knesset member Azmi Bashara declared that his "aspiration" is "for Israel to become a state for all its citizens, rather than a Jewish State." Bashara noted that this goal "is an aspiration which contradicts Zionism and prevents the process of Israelization"...

...Addressing the recent Arab-American conference in Washington at which President Clinton spoke, Palestinian Authority cabinet minister Hanan Ashrawi objected to Israel's characterization of Iran and Iraq as "rogue states." Said Ashrawi: "The only major rogue state in the region is another 'I' state, Israel"...
...The day after President Clinton spoke at that Arab-American conference, the conference featured a discussion on "The Honorable Struggle of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs." The Washington Report is a vehemently anti-Israel magazine published by Andrew Killgore and other former U.S. ambassadors to Arab countries. The May/June 1998 issue--the issue distributed at the conference--featured an article by Killgore in which he wrote: "[Senator Alfonse] D'Amato may be Israel's most slavish supporter in Congress. He might, therefore, be called a senior executive of AIPAC #2, the State Department and the White House being AIPAC #1"...
...The National Council of Churches, Presbyterian Church USA, and other liberal church groups declared, in a recent letter to President Clinton, that instead of just congratulating Israel on its 50th anniversary, he should focus on "the dislocation and suffering experienced by the Palestinian people..."
