One Minute to Midnight Dr. Irving Moskowitz ARAB WAR PLANS In a recent interview with the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot, Major-General Eitan Ben-Eliahu, commander in chief of the Israeli Air Force, warned that the number of military aircraft held by the Arab regimes will exceed Israel's. "Such advances are closing the quality gap between Israel and its Arab neighbors," Maj.-Gen.Ben-Eliahu said. "The most significant danger to Israeli security is the number of ground-to-ground long-distance missiles in Arab possession. Syria alone has 1,100..."

This worrisome Arab military buildup did not begin after the election of Benjamin Netanyahu. It was obviously well underway, and rapidly accelerating, during the Labor years. While Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres were telling the Israeli public that Oslo would bring about a "New Middle East" of peace and harmony, they knew full well that the Arab regimes were stockpiling the most advanced and dangerous weapons they could get their hands on. The Labor leaders claimed that Syria had become "moderate" and wanted to make peace with Israel--now we learn that the Syrians were gathering an arsenal of over 1,000 deadly missiles, aimed at Israel. With each passing day, and each new revelation, the dangerous folly of Oslo becomes more and more apparent.
