OSLO, THREE
YEARS LATER

(Continued from p.5)

endangers the Valley of Jezreel.

* Propaganda aimed at poisoning the minds of the local Arabs so that they serve as foci of incitement, and hostile propaganda in the very heart of the country on PA radio and television, in schools and colleges.

* The erosion of the morale and motivation of the IDF by the illusion of "peace."

* The danger of social and political explosion inside Yesha Arab society, now wedged in between the PLO terrorist regime of repression and the Israeli closure. On the other hand, the hundreds of thousands of foreign laborers brought in to replace the Arabs imperil the entire fabric of our society and economy.

* The progressive squeezing of Israel into an urban ghetto, as it gradually loses its natural hinterland, which lies mainly in Samaria.

* The danger of massive Jewish emigration ("yeridah"), once the influx of 2-3 million Arabs fills Samaria to an overflow capacity and pressure against the Green Line begins from the East.

* An assault on our sovereignty in Jerusalem by means of penetration and infiltration of PA power, coupled with their success in moblizing widespread international support.

* Winds of war: once all phases of "redeployment" have been accomplished and Final Status negotiations begun, if Israel rejects the partition of Jerusalem and the establishment of a Palestinian state, it will find itself entrapped in the Interim Agreement situation with the Palestinian Authority having total, "irreversible" control of all the land from the Green Line to the Jordan river. In such a case, the Arab Oslo "Peace Coalition" will transform itself into a coalition of war. Even today, such threats are being heard from Cairo to Gaza.

* A tragic chasm has developed inside the Jewish nation the world over. While some Jews see Oslo as a brave struggle for peace, at least half consider it a crime having historic, cultural, religious and security dimensions. The latter believe that, for the first time in the annals of history, the Jewish people have voluntarily relinquished their right to their land and historical heritage, in essence their very right to exist as a nation.

Summing up, Oslo 1993 has realized in Israel the horrors of George Orwell's "1984": "War is Peace."

The new Israeli government faces a dilemma: to absorb the grave damage involved in the liquidation of Oslo, or to continue the "process" and plow inevitably on towards a war in which we shall make our stand on the outskirts of Petah Tikvah with our back to the sea -- our very survival in the balance. ×

WHY DO THE NATIONS RAGE?

drums and cans, built a door through the base of the Wall and led donkeys among the praying Jews. By that time, the British policy favored creating a pan-Arab puppet state, so they let the situation simmer. On Tisha B'av, 1929, two hundred Jewish children marched with a petition to the British police chief, requesting that he protect Jewish worshippers from harassment.

This petition was more than Arab sensibilities could bear. The next day, two thousand of them swooped down from Al Aqsa screaming, "The religion of Muhammed is the sword." Knowing in advance of this 'rally,' the British had removed Jews from the area (the kind of "compromise" again in fashion), so the Arabs contented themselves with beating an old man who was left behind, and destroying prayer books and Bibles. The next day, they stabbed a Jewish student to death.

After marchers in the ensuing Jewish funeral procession were beaten by British and Arab police, Palestinian Arabs spread rumors (as in 1996) portraying the event as an attack by Jews on the mosque. Again, the British looked on while Arabs streamed in from Jordan, Syria and Iraq to avenge the "attack." The situation climaxed with the murder of Jews in Jerusalem, Safed and Hebron, where dozens were killed, hundreds injured and the remnant driven out.

Events have come full circle. Jewish Israelis do productive and inoffensive work which the Arabs,

A MATTER
OF PRIORITIES

Labor Zionism and the
Plight of Soviet Jewry, 1917-1996

by Prof. Geoffrey Martin
and Natan Herzl

This meticulously documented expose reveals the Labor Party's history of ignoring and even sabotaging the struggle for Soviet Jewish freedom. Some observers believe that A Matter of Priorities helped turn significant numbers of Russian-born Israeli voters against the Labor Party in this year's election.
