When an official of a leftist party was involved in an incident of campaign violence, however, nobody in the U.S. media was interested. Rami Sadeh, the leftwing Meretz Party's Youth Coordinator for the Southern

Region, was arrested for assault, destroying property, and making a threat with a weapon, after a confrontation between Meretz activists and members of Moshav Bnei Darom, near Ashdod. Sadeh and his friends were illegally posting campaign-related signs in the moshav's field, and setting small fires around the signs to make them more noticeable. When moshav members protested that the fires endangered their fields--which were extremely dry due to recent weather conditions--Sadeh allegedly drew his gun, threatened to shoot the moshav members, and struck one of them with the butt of the pistol. Did Peter Jennings report the Meretz incident? Are Anthony Lewis and Evans & Novak writing columns about it? Is Michael Lerner composing a special insert to the Passover Haggadah, deploring Meretz violence? Hardly. As far as the media and the Jewish left are concerned, violence is only bad when it can be attributed to the Jewish right.

Americans for a Safe Israel mourns the death of Stanley Diamond, founder and inspiration for the Philadelphia AFSI chapter. Stanley was a lifelong Revisionist Zionist and disciple of Jabotinsky. His Zionist activities began at the University of Riga in the 1920s, and only ended with his death, after a long and productive life. He will be sorely missed.
