it impossible to build a church or even a tiny place of worship, but any act of Christian worship or any sign of Christian faith is severely prohibited with the harshest penalties. Thus about a million Christians working in Saudi Arabia are deprived by violence of any Christian practice or sign. They may participate in mass or in other Christian practices -- and even then with the serious danger of losing their jobs -- only on the property of the foreign oil companies. And yet, Saudi Arabia spends billions of petrodollars, not for the benefit of its poor citizens or of poor Muslims in other Muslim countries, but to construct mosques and madrassas in Europe and to finance the imams of the mosques in all the Western countries. We recall that the Roman mosque of Monte Antenne, con-structed on land donated by the Italian government, was principally financed by Saudi Arabia and was built to be the largest mosque in Europe, in the very heart of Christianity.
I saw you at a cocktail party some years ago. I was impressed with your looks -- for a man of your age -- and bouncy, confident manner. You are dapper, sartorially splendid, and exhibited what the French call a je ne sais quoi. That means an "I don't know what." But now, I do know what. Behind that phantom confidence, you are running scared. That speech of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir spooked you. What with your international currency manipulations, you don't want to be among those Jews who "control the world."
So instead of denouncing the anti-Semites, you gratify them. It is Bush and Sharon and their policies that are producing anti-Semitism.
Well, Mr. Soros, I looked up the web site of your foundation. There's much ado about "open societies," women, human rights, law, justice and grants all over the world. I searched some more under regions and brought up "Turkey and the Middle East." Lots about Iraq, oil, and Caspian finances. I tried punching in Palestine or Israel and came up with a blank. I guess the issue of Israel only comes up when you are feeling wobbly as a Jew who lived in Hungary during the Holocaust.
Did you ever see the movie Sunshine? It's about four generations of a Hungarian Jewish family named Sonnenschein who change their name, assimilate, but to no avail. The Hungarian anti-Semites harass them and the Nazis find them. See the movie. Ralph Fiennes is terrific in it.
Now, back to you, or as your book is entitled, Soros on Soros -- Staying Ahead of the Curve. Do you really think that turning viciously on Israel will keep you ahead of the curve?
In spite of your ignorance and indifference to the problems of a Jewish state and its history, you were invited to speak to a Jewish group. Now, you know, Mr. Soros, politics -- in particular, Jewish politics -- permits philanthropists to opine on issues they know nothing about. Let's face it. You could give 20 million dollars to Sloan Kettering Institute, but they would not invite you to speak on medicine, and they would not make you an oncologist. But, alas, among Jews, as Tevyeh sings in Fiddler on the Roof, when he bemoans that he is not a wealthy man, "when you're rich they think you really know."
So, you made a fool of yourself. In your heart, Mr. Soros, you know that you are the prototypical American/Jew despised by Moslem terrorists. Your response? You seek to ingratiate yourself not only by attacking Israel but by making wild charges that President Bush is a compound of Nazis and Communists. There is a saying, "It is better to be presumed a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
Now, I am not saying that you have no accomplishments. Would I love to learn investing from you? You bet. Would I love to have your entrance to society? But of course. Would I use your influence to get my darling grandson into an elite school? What a question.
But, dear Mr. Soros, do I give a hoot what you think about world events? Or about drug legalization, which you promote without a clue as to the pharmacological effects of illegal drugs? No, Mr. Soros. I don't and neither does anyone else including the Muslim fascists with whom you seek to curry favor.
Sincerely,
Ruth King
P.S. Not a single Democratic candidate distanced himself from your mad rant against President Bush, let alone from your views on the causes of anti-Semitism. The candidates are too eager for your money. Joseph Lieberman said he had not "read" what you said and so could not comment.
I greet you in the name of Allah, the forgiving and the merciful, and I hope this letter finds you well. I don't want to be rude, Arik, but seeing you negotiate is like watching a game of ping pong with the ball bouncing back to you from the net fast and furious while your opponent laughs. "There will never be a Palestinian state." "A Palestinian state is inevitable." "I'm going to kill or exile Arafat." "No, I promise not to touch a hair on his head." "Yes, he has to go." "No, my own leftists will make
