comes Fatah co-founder Abu Mazen as a "moderate" opposed to terror. In fact, Abu Mazen called for continuation of terror against Jews who lived outside the 1949 borders as recently as March 3. Moreover, he is a maximalist who seeks the elimination of Israel through the implementation of the Arab "right of return." As Lerner aptly sums up, "It is most unfortunate -- as well as profoundly ironic -- that at a time that President Bush struggles against a world that adamantly refuses to accept the truth about Saddam Hussein that he himself acts no bettter than Mr. Blix in assessing the performance of the PA."

Tony Blair Exacts His Price: Israel

Blair has been widely -- and deservedly -- praised for his courageous stand on Iraq despite the difficulties it has caused him in his own party. His speech before Parliament on March 18 setting forth the reason for his policy (and that of President Bush) was a model of clarity and eloquence.

But Blair is already cashing in his chips and it is clear what he expects his reward to be: that the U.S. sign onto the European Union's anti-Israel policy. Alarmingly, it looks as if Blair believes getting Bush on board the European plan to deliver up Israel is the key to salvaging both the Atlantic alliance and the UN itself. Blair told the House of Commons: "I do not believe there is any other issue with the same power to reunite the world community than progress on the issues of Israel and Palestine."

Blair may have been a hero on Iraq but he takes the role of Chirac when it comes to Israel: he is a shill for the Arab world's campaign to eliminate the Jewish state.

Monsieur Chirac

It is difficult to convey the pompous self-righteous tone in English translation. Jacques Chirac, after his cam-paign to save Saddam succeeded in the Security Council but failed to halt President Bush, declared that in the event American forces were attacked with biological or chemical weapons "France will rise to the occasion and join the war against Iraq."

Our translation: "Look guys, in the event that during your invasion you discover all the help that France has given the Iraqi dictator, please be kind."

Our Friends, the Saudis

AFSI has just published a pamphlet Dubious Allies: The Arab Media's War of Words Against America, putting together samples of anti-American rhetoric, including expressions of joy at the destruction of September 11, that have filled the media of a number of our supposed Arab "allies." Our thanks to Dr. Stephen Rittenberg for a still more recent example from Professor Afnan Hussein Fatani writing in Saudi Arabia's English daily, Arab News. "During the days of slavery in America, white men discovered the powerful singing voices of their black slaves. Today, judging from the sleek performance of Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice, American leaders have apparently discovered and successfully utilized the articulate skills of their black citizens. Too bad the message these black politicians are promoting is Zionist war and destruction, and not Christian peace and goodwill."
