Solidarity for Israel

Editor's Note: This call to action on behalf of Israel went out to the membership of the Christian Coalition, which was founded by Pat Robertson and has member groups in each state.

We are now facing some of the most troublesome times ever known in our nation's history. As we have lived through these dark hours over the past few months, it has brought to us a new realization of just how much we need God's intervention and the support, compassion and prayers of one another.

While we as citizens of the United States have enjoyed the blessings of living in a society free of terrorist threat, America's staunchest friend and ally Israel has had to live a quite different existence. Living under constant threat of terrorist attack, God's chosen people, the Jews, have learned the lesson that the U.S. is presently learning: that swift and sure retribution is the only effective way to counter terrorism. For Israel, constant vigilance is a matter of daily survival.

As Christians, we see the nation of Israel in a much different context than does the rest of the world. We recognize the special love Jehovah God has expressed for His ancient people and we honor and celebrate the rich heritage of morality passed down to us in the Judeo-Christian ethic. We acknowledge God's covenant with Israel regarding their rightful possession to the physical land of Palestine granted to them by God.

At this time Israel seems to be held to a double standard: whereas the United States is in aggressive pursuit of those who have murdered and terrorized our nation, Israel, on the other hand, is being asked not to pursue those terrorists who are daily causing death and carnage within her borders.

At this defining moment in history, it is imperative that Christian people stand along side God's Chosen people, Israel. We should stand with Israel because we both have enduring love for the same Heavenly Father, yet we should also stand with her because of a great promise of scripture: As God promised Abraham, "And I will bless them that bless thee and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 12:3) You can help rally behind the nation of Israel by taking a few moments to make a couple of important phone calls that will make a tremendous difference.

* Call your Congressman and ask that he support H.Con.Res.222, a resolution introduced by Rep. Jim Saxton of New Jersey, expressing the sense of Congress regarding Israel's inherent right of self-defense.

* Call or e-mail the White House, stating your concerns for Israel coming under a double standard regarding her right to self-defense. Also voice concern about the establishment of a Palestinian state, which would greatly compromise Israel's security and possibly lead to the creation of a new terror-sponsoring mini-state in the midst of our nation's war on terror.
