on target this time. He stated that Arabs must understand that no daylight can be visible between Israel and America as we stand arm in arm as allies. There were other elected representatives who echoed these words, but the foreign policy coterie in this miserable administration only linked arms, wallowing in its pathetic legacy and calling for an end to the "cycle of violence."

The Attack on the Cole

We mourn the deaths of American sailors in a suicide bomb attack in the port of Aden. We extend condolences to the bereaved and our prayers for the recovery of the dozens of injured men and women. When terrorism is not swiftly and harshly punished it only emboldens future perpetrators. Americans have been the victims of Arab terrorism -- at the World Trade Center, in airplanes, airports, as tourists on ships and in airports, in army and marine barracks, in nations as distant as Turkey and Argentina.

By a pusillanimous response to the sponsors of terrorism and by not developing coherent energy policies which bring us independence from oil-producing Arab nations, we remain vulnerable to repeated and escalated terrorist attacks.

The Enemy Within

There surely must be a corner reserved in hell for those Jews who join the enemy in weakening, besmirching and betraying the Jewish State. Among Israel's perpetrators of this evil, there has been restraint of late: Beilin, Lahat, Sarid, Aloni, et. al. have all been shocked temporarily into silence. Peres actually stated that he was "misled" by Arafat. The sight of bloodthirsty mob violence against Jews soldiers has even sobered them.

Too little. Too late.

But a young Israeli lawyer named Allegra Pacheco has gone over the top. On a CNN program (Burden of Proof), aired after the outrageous lynching of Israeli soldiers in Ramallah, she defended the murderers stating that they had been victims of "atrocities" committed by the Israelis, and urged the convening of an international tribunal to try Israel's "human right violations."

Dear Miss Pacheco. If only she would mouth "human rights protests" in nations controlled by the terrorists she so admires. She would be flogged, raped and probably killed. Only in Israel is a traitor like Pacheco permitted to function, to travel and to speak slander to foreign media. Pacheco's place in that corner of hell is assured. But for others a reservation may be needed. It is filling up quickly.

The Peace Dividend

...On October 10, Sheikh Muhammed Sayyid Tantawi, the highest ranking religious official in Egypt and an appointee of President Mubarak, declared that Islam required that the leaders and people of every Arab and Islamic state support the jihad of the Palestinian people against Israel, "the aggressor enemy"...

...Lieutenant Colonel Udi Lev, a member of Barak's counter-terrorism bureau, reported on October 16 that members of the Palestinian security serves were working with Hamas to prepare attacks on Israel...

...Also in October, Dr. Ahmad Abu Halabiya, member of the PA appointed "Fatwa Council" and former acting Rector of the Islamic University in Gaza, delivered a Friday sermon at a Gaza mosque which was broadcast live on official Palestinian Authority television. A small excerpt, courtesy of the Middle East Media Research Institute, which provides translations from the Arab media: "Have no mercy on the Jews, no matter where they are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you are. Wherever you meet them, kill them. Wherever you are, kill those Jews and those Americans who are like them and those who stand by them....We will not give up a single grain of soil of Palestine, from Haifa and Jaffa, and Acre, and Mulabbas [Petah Tikva] and Salamah, and Majdal [Ashkelon], and all the land....Allah, deal with the Jews, your enemies and the enemies of Islam"...

...Israel Radio correspondent Nissim Keinan reported on October 4 that he "observed a Palestinian ambulance parked next to Netzarim Junction [in the Gaza Strip] unloading crates of ammunition and fire bombs. He observed some of the bombs thrown." Keinan said that "the Palestinians are exploiting standing orders in the Israeli Army not to shoot at ambulances." The Israeli radio station Arutz 7 reported on October 15 that "the PA's Red Crescent emergency medical services [which are headed by Yasir Arafat's brother, Fathi Arafat] are informed in advance of Palestinian attacks on Jewish targets. Ambulances show up at the intended sites several minutes beforehand in order to proffer aid to Palestinians who might be injured. This shows the extent of the cooperation between the Red Crescent and those who carry out the attacks"...
