[(Continued from p.7)]

America, insisted that he and his "Revisionists must surrender and submit to [Labor] discipline" and adopt "restraint." Jabotinksy and the Irgun made repeated concessions, but Ben-Gurion canceled all agreements (Katz, chapter 99). While the Revisionists thought first of saving Jewish lives and settling the Land, Labor thought first of political dominance. "As always, Ben-Gurion wanted no accomodation with dissidents, only a showdown," wrote historian J. Bowyer Bell of the June 1948 Altalena episode (Bell, Terror Out of Zion, 1977, 324 passim). Rather than arms and munitions to liberate and unify Jerusalem with the Irgun, Ben-Gurion and Rabin preferred to blow up the ship and risk civil war by shooting down Jews on the beach. The sequel sees the most venerable Jewish sections of Jerusalem being delivered into the hands of enemies of Israel. Just as Ben-Gurion blocked the burial of Jabotinsky in Israel, so his descendants continue to vilify and prosecute those who seek to unify Israel and put off the suicidal, war-inviting policy of "restraint." They hate those who retain the faith they have lost.

Those who wish to savor and learn from the prescient voice raised decades ago should consult Katz's biography, especially Volume II. As a volcano again gathers under the feet of the Jewish people, the history of the 1930s and 1940s to the present day indicates the path a Jewish Israel must follow to survive and flourish. As the history of the Mandate showed, shrinkage and propitiation led to a holocaust. One was enough.

The Peace Dividend

...Following the Israeli Army's departure from Lebanon, Arab Member of Knesset Azmi Bishara made a speech in the Knesset: "For the first time since 1967 we taste the sweet taste of victory [the Hizbollah victory over Israel]. The Hizbollah has the right to feel proud of how it debased Israel." The Israeli town of Umm al-Fahm also held an official "Victory for Hizbollah" celebration...

"Now that Israel is retreating from Gaza and the Wet Bank, radical Israeli Arabs are preparing for the day when they will ask to join Yasser Arafat's newly built kingdom," reports Uri Dan in the New York Post...

...Over the weekend of June 10-11, a Palestinian Arab fired shots at Israeli soldiers near the entrance to Tulkarm, a roadside bomb in Beit Sahur exploded as an Israeli Army jeep passed, and Arabs hurled rocks at Israeli cars near Jelazoun, wounding a child. An Israeli Army spokesman called the attacks "serious" and called on the Palestinian Authoirty "to prevent terror attacks perpetrated from areas under its security control"...

...Why does the Palestinian Authority have heat-seeking anti-aircraft missiles in its arsenal? When Apache helicopters flew near the firefight taking place between the Israeli Army and the PA security forces near Ramallah in May, "the helicopters shot aerial flares," notes Aaron Lerner of IMRA. "The IDF Spokesman's Office explained to IMRA that when the area commander believes that there is the threat of missiles in the area, the helicopters are ordered to carry out such counter-measures"..

...A fugitive Hamas terrorist, Nadim Abu-Okel, tried to cross from Gaza to Egypt in early June and was detained by Israeli intelligence agents. "Palestinian police tried to prevent the Israelis from taking Abu-Okel into custody, and started struggling with them," the Jerusalem Post reports. "Some policemen stoned the Israeli security forces"...

..."In recent months, there has been a sharp increase in the conversion of the different Palestinian security forces into a military force that carries out maneuvers, exercises, and live fire drills throughout the Palestinian Authority controlled areas, traveling in military convoys," the Jerusalem Post revealed on May 31. "The Palestinian Police and other security forces have adopted military-style operations and focused less on community service and combatting crime...The military force is being commanded by qualified officers who have undergone intensive training in Egypt, Yemen, Italy, and Eastern European countries. There are 22,000 Palestinian security officials who currently serve in the different security organizations in Gaza, including intelligence, preventive security, and police, military, and naval forces. This does not include the large number of illegal weapons smuggled into the Gaza Strip by PA officials and VIPs...The military force in Gaza also has a number of armored personnel carriers and other vehicles, mounted machine guns and mortars"...

...Leaflets circulated in the Israeli Arab village of Shfaram earlier this year described Israeli Independence as a Holocaust for the Arabs, and urged citizens to treat it as a day of mourning and boycott all Independence Day events...
